Molonglo Swimmers Off to a Good Start for 2025 at Campbelltown

Three Molonglo Swimmers have kicked off the 2025 swimming season with some success at the Campbelltown meet on 1 February. Two new members and one old hand made the trek to Campbelltown for the first meet of the year, and in a case of first in-best dressed, were quick to make a mark in the National Top Ten for 2025. Itโ€™s early days, but we have set the standard for others to catch.

Julianne Crowley dived in the deep end to record the third best 50m freestyle in Australia this year in the 75-79 age group with a time of 51.01s. She followed up with a third place in the 100m backstroke with a time of 2:29.07 and went one better in the 50 butterfly, ranking second in a time of 1:08.25. Julianne recently moved back to Canberra from WA, and swims with the retired set on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the AIS.

Jason Bryant got into the National Top Ten in the highly competitive 60-64 age group, with his 50m freestyle in a time of 40.12s ranking 10th and ranking 6th in the 50m breaststroke with his time of 1:06.28. John Collis ranked second in the 70-74 age group for both the 50m breaststroke in 46.18s, and the 50m butterfly in 49.56s, and third in the 50m backstroke in 53.31s

Rankings donโ€™t mean much this early in the season, or at all really. Your closest competitor is always yourself, and if you can chase yourself to do a personal best that is the best win you can have. However it does indicate that there are many swimmers in our club who could swim Top Ten times at the State and National level if they set their mind to it. All you need to do is to set your goals and let your coaches know, and we can work towards achieving them. The NSW State Championships are coming up in Homebush on 29-30 March and I encourage everyone to think about having a go.
