The Pan Pacific Masters Games were held in November on the Gold Coast, with over 12,000 athletes participating in 45 sports, including archery and equestrian to volleyball, water polo, and swimming. The swimming competition, run by Masters Swimming Queensland, was held from 6-10 November 2024 at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Southport.
Swimmers from the United States, United Kingdom, India, Mongolia, Japan, and New Zealand combined with those from around Australia to have fun swimming together and challenging each other in the pool.
The Molonglo Water Dragons were represented by one of our newest Members, Jason Bryant swimming the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 50m breaststroke and beating his entry times in all three events. Jason also swam the 1000m Ocean swim coming in third and bringing home a bronze medal.

Our Club Captain John Collis jumped ship and swam for the Tuggeranong Vikings, scurvy knave that he is. After four days with gastro in the lead up to the event, he scratched himself from the 200m breaststroke hoping to avoid a nasty accident and shutting down the event. He recovered the next day, and swam the 50m and 100m breaststroke missing the medals but swimming reasonably good times and coming fourth in both events. The Pan Pacific Games is a fun and friendly event and will be on again in 2026, and it’s well worth considering as part of a Gold Coast holiday
