Popular John Wins 2021 Betty Grant Award

Club Captain and Vice-President, John Collis, was presented with the Batty Grant Award at the Campbelltown Swim held on Saturday 29th January.

The award commemorates the involvement with Masters NSW by Betty Grant who was a long time stalwart of Trinity Club. It is for members of the Masters Swimming NSW (and ACT) Branch who have made a significant contribution to their club and or the branch.

 John received his award for services to Molonglo Water Dragons especially during Covid 19. Starting in 2011 John Has served the club continuously as a member of committee, serving first as treasurer, then race secretary, webmaster, registrar, vice-president, president and club captain. More recently he completed the coaching course and is regularly seen on deck in this role. He is also a keen competitor especially in breaststroke and relay events and has been swimmer of the meet at the Great Barrier Reef Masters Games in Cairns where he went to school. “During the darkest days of the pandemic in 2020, John was a beacon of optimism and rallying point for club members. He helped them adapt to ne processes to ensure COVID-safe swimming when the pools re-opened.”

When nor coaching John swims with the club on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and often helps take Endurance 1000 times.

Fellow club members Marg Larkin and Tim Mather who also competed at the Campbelltown swim meet (see separate article) were there to congratulate John on the day.

John was presented with the perpetual award by MSNSW President Kerryn Blanch. He was also given a desk clock to help him keep time.  John joins fellow club member, Gary Stutsel (2000), as a recipient of this award.
