The Molonglo Megasaurs, a guns-for-hire subset of the Molonglo Water Dragons lashed out on the weekend of 19-20 May to swim for 24 hours non-stop to raise funds for MS Australia. A hardy team of 15 swimmers lined up to swim their weekend away, raising $3,775 to support people living with Multiple Sclerosis in the process.
This was a mighty effort, by all concerned, none more so that Annika Hofsink and her family, Dora, Elize and Heidi, who swam the dreaded midnight to dawn shift and raised a hefty $1,640 between them. Another family team, the David, Kirsten, Katherine and Stephen Muzgrove opened the event and raised $1,135.
Also swimming were Club members John Collis, Tanya Colyer, Margaret Hadfield, Christine Hayhoe, Timothy Mather, and former member Megan O’Mara. Denise Druitt from the Tuggeranong Vikings and Stacey Marsh from Exceed Fitness made up the rest of a strong team. A number of swimmers swam timed endurance swims during the event. Well done the Megasaurs, give yourselves a whole lot of pats on the back (this can double as a good stretching exercise).
This fun event has been a regular feature of our swimming calendar and we encourage more people to get involved next year.
