After missing the 320+ 4x50m freestyle record at the NSW Championships in October, the club’s Awesome Foursome decided to try to break it at the Campbelltown meet held on Saturday, 28th January. The current record of 3:00.45 was set by Manly Club 23 years ago in 2000 and it must be the longest standing record in Masters Swimming NSW. Our “boys” were just 9 tenths of a second slower (3:01.35) in October.
So on a clear day where the temperature exceeded 33C in the shade, at an open air pool where the two swimmers starting from the shallow end had to push off as the pool is deemed too shallow for dive starts at that end the “boys” tried again.
Swimming in the following order, Gary Stutsel (84), Geoff Llewellyn (90) John Collis (71) and Mike Peedom (79) they could manage only a 3:09.86 to finish well outside their target but clear winners of their age group (320+). Now the planning will start for the club’s next attempt to break this record.
As well as their relay attempt our four joined with the other 169 swimmers from 25 other clubs to contest a maximum of 3 of the 10 individual events. Their results were
